On 1 July 2024, an Air Europa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, operating as Air Europa Flight 045, on a scheduled international passenger flight from Madrid to Montevideo, experienced strong turbulence. The aircraft later diverted to Greater Natal International Airport, Brazil.[1] 40 passengers were injured with 10 hospitalized.[2]

editThe aircraft involved was a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered as EC-MTI with serial number 62169, that was first delivered in 2018. The aircraft was equipped with two Rolls-Royce Trent 1000-D3 engines.[3] At that time of the accident, the plane was carrying 345 people.[citation needed]

editWhile cruising above the Atlantic Ocean at 36,000 ft. The plane was rocked by severe turbulence, which made passengers hit the ceiling, as well as a man who was pulled to the roof. The plane diverted to Natal, Brazil.[4]
