1776 North Carolina gubernatorial election

The 1776 North Carolina gubernatorial election was held in 1776 in order to elect the First Governor of North Carolina. Candidate Richard Caswell was elected by the North Carolina Provincial Congress to serve as Acting Governor until the next legislature was elected. The exact number of votes cast in this election is unknown.[1]

On election day in 1776, Richard Caswell was elected by the North Carolina Provincial Congress. Caswell was sworn in as the 1st Governor of North Carolina on 21 December 1776.[2]
