Zork

edit

I noticed that you created a few nice Zork-related articles. I tried doing the same thing last year, using The Encyclopedia Frobozzica as my source (I actually copied the text instead of writing my own version) and those got deleted. If you want to create more, I'd suggest paraphrasing EF or writing your own versions, and sticking to the most important topics for now (such as Great Underground Empire or Quendor). -- BRIAN0918  11:27, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks Brian. Yes, I am aware of the copyvio thing - I've seen it happen before :/. Luckily, I have been using my own words, just using Encyclopedia Frobozzica as a guide on the facts. I have been meaning to create a Double Fannuci article, because that was hilarious. Unfortunately I think that would require a good deal of verbatim from EF. Also, the links to EF from the pages I created (Skull of Yoruk, Coconut of Quendor, Cubes of Foundation) are now broken [1]. That site was the best EF I've seen, with pictures and appendices (which are missing from the sourceforge version [2]) so I'm reluctant to redirect those links. —EatMyShortz 03:12, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • That site's not down, it moved to [3]. -- BRIAN0918  03:34, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • Ahh awesome :D. Thanks for that, I will update those pages links. —EatMyShortz 07:18, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Once upon a time...

edit

Hi -- and also welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed Ayinyud's alternative proposal on the discussion page -- and well, I ran with it. Be Bold! So please drop over and look at the messes I've made. Below is my initial note on the discussion page.

"I'll join in, but I think we all have to take some initiative to get this off the ground. The time constraints may be the main difficulty. After all, everyone here does have a real life, don't they? What if we took the info above, claimed a chapter, wrote from one of the listed characters or additional character's POV (I'll be Ethelynn, the new upstairs maid - Chapter 7, User:WBardwin/Chapter.), and then put it together and edit jointly for content and flow? Each character would tell about events before, the murder, and events after from their POV, then we would have different snapshots to work from. We could then jointly write the revelation of the murderer and the conclusion. Having the first chapter to work from would be important, however. How goes it. Gkhan?"

You said you would like Chapter 2. Do you have a character in mind? Please take a look! WBardwin 22:46, 29 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

all good points. Sequential writing would have been very good, but.... Gkhan has gotten discouraged from lack of feedback(see his/my talk pages) and our choices are to go forward in some fashion or abandon the project. I was brand new to the page, but, from looking at the dates of the comments here, (and with the passing of the original chapter dates) I decided to "be bold" and take initiative. My experience with Wiki tells me that unless people see something happening, they go find something else to do. And that seems to have happened here.
Gkahn has provided a starting reference and Wikipedia (and novel writing) is about rewriting, rewriting, and rewriting anyway. Things will be disjointed, at first, but we need material to work from. Sequence and plot line can be debated on the discussion page, an outline created, and chapter sequence and/or parts of everyone's material can be shuffled if we choose to do so. That's one advantage of doing this in user space. We decide on a title, create a page for our novel (using the original space as the master page), and then transfer all (or parts) of our material (and relevant discussion to the talk page as well).
I admit I'm at a stopping point because of the lack of info on the time of the murder (1st night or 2nd night?), and so I've rambled a bit about the daily life of my character. Some of that would go when decisions are made. I read, and reread Gkahn's chapter as I wrote, and I think reading all the chapters regularly would be a good practice. So, perhaps you could look at taking a character and creating a character profile, if nothing else? Who are these people, after all? Or you could take chapter 2, continue Christopher's point of view, and flesh out the plot outline. That would be very good. Gkahn's material, my chapter, and the beginnings of our third chapter (short, when I looked last) are on the project page for review. But Gkahn's reaction is right on - without feedback, this thing will go nowhere. Comments and other ideas are always welcome, as nothing is ever set is stone at Wiki! Please think about it. 9: The Last Resort

edit

Hi. Your page title change and subsequent changes were completely incorrect. The ONLY title for this game is simply "9" and such "9 (computer game)" was the correct page title for the game. Though the game is frequently called "The Last Resort," this is not in any way, shape or form part of the legitimate title of the game, and wikipolicy is to have the page title reflect the actual subject name when possible. Please revert your changes as soon as possible. Thanks. Pacian 04:58, 17 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I noticed you were interested in this, oh about 6 months ago, and I've just done some research - the problems on the Longest common subsequence page are still there - namely I think it needs to be merged with substring. Superman: The Movie -- Lois' spelling?

edit

Superman Returns makes a reference to Lois' poor spelling. The original movie had two quotes: "How many T's in bloodletting" and "How many P's in rapist". (Neither of those are as funny as the latest version, "How many F's in catastrophic", but that's beside the point.) I had changed the article from citing the "bloodletting" quote, so that it would show the "rapist" quote. I don't think there's anything funny at all about the act of rape, but as a word, I think that rapist is simpler and easier to spell than bloodletting, and that Lois' question about it is therefore a funnier quote. Do you disagree? Why did you (at 2:43 AM, if I calculated the time zone correctly) revert it back? Thanks! --Keeves 19:29, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esoteric Programming

edit

Hi,

Yes, these article were the subject of some controversy recently. After the overturning of the mass AfD, they were all relisted individually, a process completed on 31 August, if I recall correctly. A majority of them were still deleted by consensus, with several merged to our list of esoteric programming languages. The particular one you cite, L33t, was kept at its relisting, but was subsequently deleted on 10 October, after it was reported as a copyright violation. For any of these languages, you are free to write a new article yourself, from reliable sources. Most of those deleted were simple stubs, with no source outside of the program's own webpage.

I had no personal opinion in the matter, and know very little about esoteric programming (my learning in this area stopped with PASCAL, long ago.) I was merely the administrator who happened to close the deletion review, and I did enforce a general community dislike of mass AfDs. If you find any other articles that "look fishy" (L33t certainly did, until I hunted to find the copyvio problem), let me know. Otherwise, I do hope you'll help by writing some quality articles on these things! :) Best wishes, Xoloz 17:02, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The note you added seems partially redundant with the intro to the article, which already says that the values are minimum magnitudes. Articles for deletion nomination of Tim Taylor (character)

I have nominated Tim Taylor (character), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Al Borland (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

AfD nomination of Michael Thau

edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Michael Thau. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Thau. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:15, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Apricot-cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Apricot-cover.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Proposed deletion of Crash to desktop

edit

The article Crash to desktop has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Essay with no standalone notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
